GINA STEINWAY

Associate Director of Fundraising & Sponsorship, Odell Simms & Lynch

 

As Associate Director of Fundraising & Sponsorship at the consulting firm, Odell Simms & Lynch (OSL), Gina Steinway provides strategic advice to non-profit organizations and leaders involved in capital campaigns, corporate sponsorships, educational programs, events, board development and related issues.

 

For the past five years, Ms. Steinway has worked closely with the Washington, D.C. Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial Project Foundation (MLKNMF) on their $120 million campaign to build the first memorial on the National Mall in honor of a person of color, non-president and non-war veteran. OSL was retained by MLKNMF when their fundraising efforts plateaued three-quarters into the journey towards meeting this bold campaign goal. Ms. Steinway developed a customized campaign strategy to recruit leadership and secure seven-figure gifts from leading global corporations, premier institutions, and individual philanthropists. The title of the MLK Memorial was turned over to President Obama and the American people on October 16, 2011. 

 

In addition to working on this historic project, Ms. Steinway has been instrumental in other high-profile campaigns and programmatic contracts such as the Gettysburg National Battlefield Museum, ChildFund International, Count Me In for Women’s Economic Independence, and the Washington National’s Youth Baseball Academy, among others.

 

Ms. Steinway began her career as a Research Associate for the U.S. Select Committee on Assassinations, Martin Luther King, Jr. Subcommittee. She worked with a team of lawyers, investigators and others to reinvestigate Dr. King’s assassination.  Upon the expiration of the Select Congressional Committee, Ms. Steinway was hired as the Legislative Librarian at Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy in New York City.  She was promoted to Director of Library Services worldwide, supervised 18 employees, and oversaw a multi-million budget.  Seven years later, Ms. Steinway assisted with the opening of the international law firm’s Washington, D.C. office and relocated to become its Director of Administration. 

 

After working eight years at the Wall Street law firm in a variety of key positions, Gina joined the marketing and communications firm, Jaffe Associates, as V.P. of Professional Services. She assisted law firms and accounting firms with developing and implementing  marketing and communications programs.  Ms. Steinway worked with individuals, practice groups and offices to enhance their visibility and promote their expertise within specialized areas with the goal of maintaining, expanding and developing business.  

In 1991, Ms. Steinway served as the Director of Marketing for a national law firm in Washington, D.C. until 1997 when she left to establish her own marketing consulting business. Her services included securing speaking and writing opportunities, organizing seminars, exploring new business development opportunities, obtaining media exposure, and other related activities for a wide range of clients.

 

Throughout Ms. Steinway’s professional career and personal life, she has been actively involved in numerous community organizations.  In particular, she has served as Chair of the Education and Remembrance Committee at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, and helped create programs and events for families to learn about the Holocaust.  She has also been involved in the annual Book & Author luncheons that the Holocaust Museum offered, as well as other key initiatives to educate people about the Holocaust, attract new visitors and raise money for the Museum.  Ms. Steinway served on the Board of Trustees at The Harbor School and its Executive Board for three years in Bethesda, MD.  She also was appointed to the Board of Trustees for The Bullis School in Potomac, MD for nine years.  She was invited to serve on two Headmaster Search Committees, was elected Secretary of the Board Executive Committee and was a member of the Board Governance Committee.

 

Ms. Steinway has an undergraduate degree from Goucher College in History and a master’s degree from the University of Michigan in Library and Information Service.  She and her husband have lived in the Washington, DC area for nearly 30 years; they have a daughter and son who attend the University of Michigan.
