For Immediate Release - Los Angeles - The Jamie-Lynn Sigler Foundation
announced today that it will receive 10% of the proceeds from sales of
specially designed charm bracelets and necklaces sold in Claire’s and
Icing by Claire’s stores nationwide.
Jamie-Lynn Sigler, best known for her role as Meadow Soprano, on the hit
HBO series The Sopranos, established the Foundation at The Giving Back
Fund to help promote the development of healthy body images in young
women and men, and to educate the public about the prevention and
serious consequences of eating disorders.
“As a survivor of anorexia and exercise bulimia, and as a spokesperson for
the National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA), I think it’s important to
share my story. Healing is a long process that requires a combination of
medical treatment and the support of family and friends. Too many people
can’t afford the medical treatment they need and want. My foundation is
working with NEDA to help change that. We are so grateful to Claire’s for
joining us in this effort to save lives.”
Bonnie Schaefer and Marla Schaefer, Co-Chairmen and Co-CEO’s of
Claire’s Stores Inc. (NYSE:CLE) noted that, “As a leading retailer of
costume jewelry to tweens and teens, we are keenly aware of the attention
young women place on their appearance. We also know the tragic
consequences resulting from eating disorders among this demographic
group. We are very pleased to feature these bracelets and necklaces in our
stores and to contribute a portion of the sales proceeds to her Foundation,
which is engaged in vitally important work.”
The Jamie-Lynn Sigler Foundation also invites girls to add other charms to
the bracelets, “We want to see girls expressing themselves and what’s
important to them in a healthy way,” says Jamie-Lynn. “Our jewelry is
about embracing who you are. What makes you unique makes you
beautiful. We encourage girls to remember that Beauty is a state of mind
not the state of your body.”
Nearly 10 million females and 1 million males are fighting a life-and-death
battle with an eating disorder such as anorexia or bulimia. Anorexia has
the highest mortality rate of any mental illness. Of those diagnosed with
long-term anorexia, 20% will ultimately die as a direct result of their eating
disorder. The average cost of inpatient care for eating disorder treatment is
$25,000-$30,000 per month, with an average stay of three to four months,
not covered under most health plans.
