In 2000, Mrs. Glover, La'Roi's Mother, presents the first La'Roi Glover Scholarship to Kristen Foster
and Todd Johnston , two students at Point Loma High School.
In an effort to support deserving high school senior students as they endeavor to attend
college, La’Roi Glover awards two $5,000 scholarship to Point Loma High School
graduates, La’Roi’s alma mater. One boy and one girl are selected each year to receive
college scholarships, which are awarded based on GPA requirements, extracurricular
activities, strong recommendations, and compelling essays about why the students is
deserving of the award.
When asked why the scholarship is personally important to him, La’Roi noted, “I
received various scholarships coming out of high school and I want to provide a
scholarship as well. I want to give back because people helped me out when I was
going off to college, and I want to play a role in furthering their education.”
As for what La’Roi looks for in the scholarship applicants essays, he said, “I read the
essays personally. I look for community involvement, creativity, and athletic involvement.
Also the personal obstacles that they (scholarship applicants) have overcome is very
important.”
