10×10’s MISSION

To Empower the Next Generation of Giving. On the evening of the event, the three selected charities will pitch to the audience and the Shark, who will question the charities about their cause, organization, business model, impact, etc.

  1. 10 volunteer committee members organize a charity event (1 x venue, 3 x charities, 3 x Sharks, food & drink).
  2. Each committee member invites at least 10 of his or her friends to make a $100 pledge (or more) to attend the event (10×10… get it?) creating a pool of at least $10K.
  3. Upon arrival, each attendee is given ‘Charity Dollars’ equal to the value of their “Pledge.”
  4. On the evening of the event, the three selected charities will pitch to the audience and Shark who will question the charities about their cause, organization, business model and impact, etc.
  5. Each attendee then decides directly who they want to give their ‘Charity Dollars’ to.

Over 70% of sixth-graders in the heart of Latin America can’t read a paragraph in their local newspaper. More than 50% suffer abuse at home. It isn’t uncommon for kids to get trapped in a cycle of illiteracy, violence, and discouragement. Our mission is to inspire children to become agents of change in their communities. Our Kid Teachers program is the first mixed-income incubator for child leadership in Paraguay. In 2019 our 80+ Kid Teachers will enter a three-week incubator and spend 3000+ hours not only learning to teach literacy to younger kids, but also confronting their fears and empowering others.

Currently 200 women and trans people are serving Life Without Parole (LWOP) sentences in women’s prisons. The majority are survivors of abuse, sexual violence and trafficking and 90% were sentenced as “aiders and abettors” and first-time “offenders.” A LWOP sentence deprives people of hope and the chance for rehabilitation, free legal counsel and offers only the poorest job opportunities.  CCWP is a grassroots social justice organization that challenges the institutional violence imposed on these communities by the prison industrial complex. CCWP’s campaign to #DropLWOP seeks to win freedom for women sentenced LWOP by educating lawmakers and the public about the stories of this community and the inhumanity of extreme sentencing.

Today, 1 in 5 Medicare and Medicaid dollars goes directly toward Alzheimer’s care and that number is estimated to increase as the baby boomer generation comes of age. Furthermore, 40% of caregivers develop clinical depression. The Youth Movement’s mission is to promote understanding of Alzheimer’s among youth and young adults by providing opportunities to help those affected by the disease. The program incentivizes young high school graduates to spend one to two years providing non-medical respite care for family caregivers of persons with Alzheimer’s. This program will prepare the state’s future workforce to address the growing aging population and reduce the financial burden that dementia and related diseases place on Medicaid.
